First of all lets look at how language has changed over time. Lately we have the word ‘AI’ all over the place. And its not what old school sci-fi books defined it as. What we know AI to be is really the super intelligence of a manufactured thing. That is now termed ‘AGI’ Artificial General Intelligence’.
What is meant when companies use the word ‘AI’ to promote their products? Lets look at what is the different between AI and AGI
The difference between AI (Artificial Intelligence) and AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)
lies mainly in scope and capability:
AI (Artificial Intelligence)
- Definition: AI refers to systems that are designed to perform specific tasks that normally require human intelligence (e.g., recognizing speech, translating languages, recommending products).
- Narrow/Weak AI: Most AI today is narrow AI, meaning it’s highly specialized. For example, an AI can beat humans at chess but can’t drive a car or write poetry.
- Examples:
- Chatbots
- Image recognition software
- Recommendation algorithms (e.g., Netflix, Amazon)
- Voice assistants (e.g., Siri, Alexa)
AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)
- Definition: AGI refers to a hypothetical form of AI that can understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a broad range of tasks, much like a human being.
- General/Strong AI: AGI would be capable of reasoning, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and adaptability in unfamiliar situations.
- Does Not Exist Yet: As of now, AGI is theoretical and not yet realized. It’s a major goal of long-term AI research.
Key Differences at a Glance
Feature | AI (Narrow) | AGI (General) |
---|---|---|
Scope | Specific tasks | Any intellectual task a human can do |
Flexibility | Low | High |
Learning | Task-specific | Cross-domain, adaptable |
Current Existence | Exists today | Does not exist yet |
Examples | GPT, DeepMind’s AlphaGo | Hypothetical systems like Data (Star Trek) or HAL 9000 (2001: A Space Odyssey) |
What people think AI art is
AI art is sold as an algorithm that funnels through millions of data and art on the internet. To then generate a new image. Or ‘create’ an image from what is available on the internet.
What is available on the internet? OTHER ARTISTS WORK. Therefore, the current AI image creators that we are pulling from human artists’ work posted online. What AI art promoters will say is that when the AI image creator is pulling from millions of samples one can no longer see, identify or claim which artists the art is pulled from. WRONG.
Why is this wrong? Because the cheap AI image creators that most of us are using are not delivering what they say they are delivering. They are NOT pulling from millions of images. They do not have the power, the backup and creation to do that. Instead they are lazy algorithms pulling from 1-3 artists. And Disney has picked up on that and is now suing major Ai image creators for COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT. See that article here
As an artist I can tell when an image is copying another artists work. Here is an example.
I asked with word prompts for a
- very small mouth
- thin lips
- very small nose
- alien, fairy big wide eyes
- giant elf ears
The AI did not listen but lazily gave me an image of AVATAR. This is not pulling from millions of images off the internet. There are plenty of giant elf ear images and none were used for this image. Also, I aske for thin lips but I got standard beauty Zoe Zaldana Hollywood actress who was the face behind the main Avatar character.
This is not AI as we have learned it to be. And this is not image creation. This is image copying and regurgitation. As a fellow artist I feel that most AI art is stealing from what humans have careful made over years of training. It is stealing. And stealing art from others has been a thing since the beginning of the internet. And its a lost battle at this point.
AI art can be CREEPY
Have you noticed? Mots AI art has a creepy feel. We are initially seduced by a slick, well rendered image it pops out, its the style that most agrees with screens and draws us in. But do you see the creep factor? there is always the creep factor.
I tried using an AI image creator to make Unicorns the way I see them in my visions. My unicorns are not horses with horns. They are more like the Japanese Kirin who are a chimera like animal with long deer like face and legs and a goat or lion tale. Here is what AI generated for me below.
From my channeling perspective I sense that darkness is coming more to the surface in all aspects of life. Such as the pandemic, Trump, Elon Musk. There are extremist views on these topics. Extremely good, people are seeing the change for the better and extreme bad there are people I know who want to get off this planet for how horrendous things are perceived. It appears to me that dark is coming up to be seen more. Its no longer hiding under the Vatican vaults. Its coming out more to be seen. I see the darkness and the creep infiltrating more and more movies, TV shows and also AI art. I can feel it, its visceral, its gross, its present its there.
Frim my channeling perspective when AI generated images are not then process by a human then they contain ahigh level of creep. Some, energy, from some source has crept in. What I have also observed is that when an artist uses AI generated images and then processes them, layers them, changes them, alters, and tweaks them… then there is a lot less creep factor. What I am sensing is that dark energies, if left unchecked find ways of coming in through the cracks. And in this divided world, where we have lost the village, lost the two parents taking care of their kids, an anxious world.. well we have left a lot of cracks open.
Human Created Art vs Image-Taking-Amalgamations
AI art is very seductive. It shows images in the current digital art style that is in mode these days. As an artist for me AI art looks initially holy-shit-wow. Then it immediately jolts me into ick mode. Theres undertones of dishamorny. Uncomrotable distortion to it. Its hard to explain but this post by Lazaus Chernik who express to explains into words what I have thought about AI ‘art.’ Its so hard to explain that AI art is not being created. Its being compiled like a collage from already created art by real humans…. and smushed together. This is a controversial topic because we are not informed enough as to the behind the scenes mechanism of this. Theres more to know I feel. For those who do not identify as artists an use AI .. I am not agaisnt you. I am against the making of things that steal from others. The principle is wrong and unethical. So I might be against the makers of these AI algorythms. The mechanics.
In the words of artist Lazarus Chernik:
“Non-Artist: “I can see something so clearly in my head, I just don’t have the skills to execute it. That’s why I need an artist who can just do what I imagine.”
Where to from here?
Nothing has changed some spiritual leaders can say. All is as it has always been. Earth is a place with both dark and light. It is up to us how we chose to navigate in it. Focus on the negative and we amplify the negative in our lives. Focus on the positive and we weave more positive in our lives.
As for my relationship with AI art. I have had quite a journey. As an artist who spends hours, days, weeks and months on painting/channeling/downloading a vision into a physical painting its hard to see images generated in seconds off of other artists hard work. It really, really triggers me. It has. For a long time.
As a channel, a sensitive, and empath and a human with a highly active nervous system I react very strongly to the environment around me. And what I am seeing is lots of ICK in Ai art in the New Age world and it disturbs me. I feel it. I see it. I sense it. For us sensitives, the biggest journey in this life is to learn how to enjoy being on Earth and how to manage our never-ending triggers.
Slowly, over time, I have come witness AI art blends that I actually liked and even came to appreciate. The first AI artist I found appealing was COSMIC SVASTI. I believe her process is using a mix of AI generated images and her own filters, tweaking and changing. Example below.
Another AI artists whos art felt less creepy and more magic was KEVIN HUMPHREY dragons.
Another AI mixed media artist I like is MELANIE STEWART. See below.
Conclusion
The world is changing. And we can change with it. What used to be ‘bad’ can morph and has morphed in so many areas of our life. Good/Bad is everywhere within us and around us. We are in charge of where our focus goes. As for AI art, I believe it is important, like all things, to be informed, to have respect for artists. To understand that what is being called ‘AI’ is not the sophisticated intelligence that we have grown up thinking it is. As that term is now ‘AGI’ and does not exist in our world yet.
As an artist and channel I have now taken up AI images and created 20 images to then use them in bits and pieces, change them, add layers and do what I call DIGITAL COLLAGE. I am sad about this as I wish I could know and honor all the artists from whom the AI is taking the images from. But it has become impossible to find and credit.
I am an artist. I am a channel. I am a human. Navigating an ever changing world. I remember when there were no portable screens. Back in the 80s climbing trees, scraping my knees each time I was thrown off my bike going top speed down dirt roads. The thrill, the adventure. Life was outside. No rules. No cell phones. Pure privacy. Ah, sigh.
